Simon Mignolet: “Thrilled to see Mats score that late goal”

Not another clean sheet for Simon Mignolet, despite the fact he had nothing to do against Waasland-Beveren. A Mats Rits last-gasp goal made sure the points stayed in Bruges.

“The most important thing is that we grabbed those three points. We almost missed out on two, but fortunatley our MVP Mats Rits managed to score that last-second goal. I was thrilled to see it go in, as we all fully realised tonight's performance was sub-par. No fine play, no chances, and that's a pity, really. You're bound to get games like that througout the season, just like we did at the start of the season against Eupen, where we also lost out on two points. But just now, we managed to win two. We knew an ultra-defensive Beveren would await us, but you can make it so much easier on yourself by scoring an early goal.”

Club's goalie lived a night of frustrations on Saturday. “Games like that are the most difficult in our business as a goalkeeper. You know you won't be called upon that often, and still there's not a lot I can do about the goal they scored. It's a pity, but there's nothing to be done about it, really. That's why I was so happy we managed to still keep the points here. It's fair to say that next Thursday's game against Manchester United will be completely different. We will have to adopt a totally different type of play, and I'm sure it will work to the benefit of our group that we're not favourites for once, and that we won't have to get past a defensive block. If we manage to get a fine result, we might just well be back on track again.” (FDC)
