Simon Mignolet: “Those coming on created the difference with impeccable timing”

UEFA Conference League

The players coming on added that needed punch to a Club side trying to get past the Osasuna deadlock. Simon Mignolet was proud to see Club prove the better team across the two encounters with Spanish Osasuna.

“No Sweat, No Glory, right? We knew this was going to be a tough one. Osasuna has a very strong side. The difference between the two outfits is that we have more attacking qualities that can make the difference. The fact that we managed to turn it around by the end of the game goes to show. We can bring some guys that add punch to our game, and they made the difference with perfect timing. I'm thrilled with that. Playing an opponent like this is always difficult. I'm stoked we have made it to the group stages, as this was definitely no easy task.”

The last hurdle on the way to the UEFA Conference League proved a tough one, with Osasuna turning out to be a sturdy opponent. “When you can beat Vigo and Valencia away from home, it means you have a solid side. This is no easy opponent. We should be very proud of the fact that we were the better team in those two games or come out on top. Kudos to everyone at Club Brugge. Before the game, I already said that today was about just one thing: qualifying. We need to remain calm, no matter the scenario at hand. Maybe the boys have picked up well on that.”

Next up in Europe is the draw for the group stages. “We now sailed past a serious cliff. Osasuna could have gone a long way in Europe, and so can we. We need to stay calm, but right now we're so happy to have qualified. We can now start a new fairy tale in Europe. We have always played in Europe ever since I arrived here, and I'm thrilled to see that this year is no different.” (KN)
