Simon Mignolet: "It went awkwardly"

Simon Mignolet had a fine save on the shot of Moeskroens player Gnohéré in the closing stages. The Bruges goalie prevented Club from going home empty-handed after this away game.

"There was only one team on the pitch that wanted to play soccer, but that's just us. Then you know you have to fight a whole match against a wall. We tried and did everything we could. On counter it's also dangerous, because they have some fast guys up front. The field wasn't super to play on, but that shouldn't be an excuse for us. All those situations didn't make it easy for us to break that wall. You have to be able to play fast soccer to find that hole. That was unfortunately not possible. It was awkward and the chances didn't really fall to score that goal. Then it stayed 0-0 for a long time. Every mistake we make then becomes dangerous. At the end, we could even lose this match. So given the circumstances, there wasn't much more in it. That is now the situation we are in. You can say we don't play enough soccer to score goals, but it has to do with several reasons."

The Limburger kept the zero on the board in the closing stages with a fine save. "We train on it every day. I play pretty high up with the team to constantly put pressure and attack. The counters come quickly and then you have to find your position out of nowhere. Today that paid off to save that ball. Against Charleroi and Beerschot we did swallow a goal after losing the ball. Luckily I can get the ball and we keep the score zero. For the same money, you still lose 1-0 here."

Starting tomorrow, the preparation for that important midweek match against Zenit in the Champions League will already follow. "We know there are a lot of matches to play. It is positive that we have such a big match again and everyone is obviously looking forward to it. It won't be easy, Zenit is a strong opponent. But we showed in Russia that we can take the three points. Let's hope we can be victorious and qualify for the Europa League in the first place. If you can then play another final to advance into the Champions League, that would be a nice bonus. We are going to do everything we can and prepare well to make that possible." (KN)
