Simon Mignolet saw Club fight their way back into the game against a stiff Union. Blue-Black has been steady in recent weeks, but now it just needs to re-engage with a string of wins.
"In top games, it depends on the little details. We had some chances in the first half. But you know that against a stiff block you have few chances. You have to finish the moments you get. That is also true in our own box. The 1-1 is the right result then. We played a good game, balanced, but with the chances we had, we could certainly have taken the three points. Against Antwerp we deserved more and that has been more in recent weeks. Had we won some of those draws, it would have been a completely different situation. You have to accept that, but we are stable. Top games depend on details, where you have to have killer instincts, not just to score, but also to defend. It's along two sides."
Simon does see Club getting better week by week. "I think we are playing better and there is enthusiasm. We are more confident on the pitch and there is a fluid game. While it's not obvious. At least that's the positive we can take away. We are in a sport where points count. We are chasing and then you want to win. We did play two good teams now. In another season, another time, this was not a bad result tonight. We have to look at ourselves and not at the opponents. We have to analyze what we have to do better leading up to the next game."
The strikers are doing a good job, it's just waiting for goals. "Noa Lang is doing very well in recent weeks, not only on the pitch. He shows a great mentality and he pulls guys with him. That's high praise for him. Yaremchuk also accomplished his duties in the first half. But attackers live off goals. If the team isn't running well and the balls aren't going in, it's hard to get into that flow."
Wednesday awaits the 1/8th final of the Champions League. "We now have a game against Benfica in another league, which can be good for confidence. We have everything to win there instead of losing in the league. We can live here with a positive feeling and enthusiasm. With the crowd behind us in a full house, let's hope with all of Club Brugge that we make it a beautiful and historic night. The belief must be there, otherwise we better not start.
