Simon Mignolet: "The intention was to stay put"

Simon Mignolet again had an important part in Blauw-Zwart's victory. The Limburger picked up with a clever save on Sakala's penalty kick, keeping the 2-1 on the board.

"I deliberately stayed standing at the penalty kick," the goalkeeper commented after the match. "I had already decided before the game to stay standing in case he kicked a penalty. When you play against Ostend, it's always a difficult match. Moreover, we came behind after a bizarre phase. Then it becomes extra difficult and there's also the wind on it, which didn't make playing soccer easy. Besides, they have a good team, they have already shown that. They are in the front for a reason. It wasn't easy, but I'm especially happy that we took the three points. It's a busy schedule. All that matters is not dropping points. We thankfully didn't do that."

Still, Simon Mignolet sees a few work points at Club. "First of all, we have to work on what to do when we prevent. Just like against Beerschot when we were ahead 0-2, I had to shoot into action several times. It was the same today. We need to do that even better, to control a game a little easier when we are ahead. We make it too difficult for ourselves, like with that penalty phase which is totally unnecessary. For the rest we have a good team, we know that. But we can definitely still grow. I don't think we're at our peak right now, which is a good sign. Especially when you're ahead by so many points, but we can definitely still work on it." (KN)
