Simon Mignolet: "This is a sour defeat"

Simon Mignolet was obviously very disappointed after the derby loss.

"This is a sour defeat we suffered today," the goalkeeper began his account. "We knew beforehand what kind of game we were going to get. Since Cercle changed coaches, they play with a lot of intensity, pressure and duels. So we were warned and it also turned out to be a real war on the pitch due to circumstances. Unfortunately, we were not able to pull out a win. The first goal we got against, the ball fell perfectly for them. We also had a similar phase where we could have scored as well, but then that ball doesn't fall into our feet. That's soccer, of course. Cercle is currently a team that is winning and maybe luck is on their side. For us then, at least today, it is difficult to score a goal and you can't win a game that way. However, this month we certainly didn't play badly and got good points, but of course we wanted to finish those last two games better with, say, a 4 out of 6. In soccer, of course, that is not guaranteed and hence this is also a regrettable defeat. So you go into the winter break with a defeat and you have a week without soccer. That will stay on the stomach for a while, but we have to come back after that winter period and stage to achieve our goals that we want to achieve," the Blauw-Zwart goalie concluded.
