Simon Mignolet: "Urgently need to stand up"

Jupiler Pro League

The elated crowd's jeers and cheers as a background noise, Club's goalie addressed the press.

"This may come as a surprise after a defeat, but I believe we started out well in the opening minutes. We just conceded that goal way too easily once again, and then you realise it could be a tough game here at Union", Club's Nr 1 started out. "We tried stitching things up at half time, but we kept playing floppy football, with Union pushing us against our own goal. But then there's that equaliser, and you start hoping you can hold on to at least that one point, and who knows what might still happen. You've got it in your own hands, really, but a long through-ball helped them to a second goal, and that's something that really can't happen."
When asked just why Club had so much trouble kicking into gear in the second half, the Limburg goalie was clear. "We just missed focus and intensity to help us put our foot next to that of our opponents. We just couldn't rise to the occasion when it came to fighting spirit and mentality. And that's my biggest disappointment. We urgently need to stand up, and keep from sitting in a corner timidly. We need to hold our heads high as we man the pitch."
