As the home supporters went full-on into the celebration, an always sober Simon Mignolet was speaking to the press.
"It might be strange to state after a defeat, but I didn't think we started badly in the opening phase. Only again we got a goal against too easily and then you know it will be even more difficult at Union," the Bruges lock said in an initial reaction. "At halftime we tried to put things right, but at first we continued to play very stiff soccer and Union had our backs glued to our own goal. But then that equalizer falls and then you hope to at least hold on to that point and who knows even to go over. You really just have everything in your own hands, but a long ball allows them to score a second time and this really shouldn't happen at all."
When asked how it was that Club barely got out of the starting blocks after the break, the Limburger was immediately clear : "We just lacked sharpness and intensity to put our foot next to the home team's. We did not manage to reach our best level in terms of fighting spirit and mentality and that is perhaps my biggest frustration. We urgently need to pick ourselves up and not hide in a corner.
