After a league break since Nov. 8, Sporting CP was back on the field last weekend, this time in the Taça de Portugal (Portuguese cup soccer). Rui Borges' team left no doubt and defeated AC Marinhense with a clear 3-0 victory, securing a spot in the eighth finals.
The match was marked by a strong first half in which Francisco Trincão played the leading role. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute and doubled it barely eight minutes later (37th minute), giving Sporting a comfortable lead going into rest. In the second half, Sporting continued to dominate, but it took until the 81st minute for the third goal to fall. Luis Suárez put the icing on the cake and made it 3-0.
With this victory, Sporting CP takes another step toward cup ambitions and can look forward to the next round with confidence.
