Stalemate between Club and AA Gent (1-1)

In a game that ended 10 vs 10, Club Brugge got stuck at a 1-1 draw against AA Gent. With twenty minutes to go, Loïs Openda made up for David's first-half opening goal.

With Nakamba out suspended, Ivan Leko opted for Mats Rits in midfield. Sofyan Amrabat started in the heart of defense again, while Siebe Schrijvers teamed up with Wesley up front. On the right wing, Krépin Diatta also maintained his starting spot.

The hosts put high pressure from kick-off, but it was Gent that threatened the first, seeing Dompé's shot go wide, and Horvath saving the Frenchman's shot. Club took over, but Esiti was able to clear Vormer's cross just before it reached Diatta, while Souquet was able to head away Denswil's header on the goal line. The goal seemed up in the air, but it came on the other side of the pitch. Horvath first denied Dompé, through on goal, but the ball ended up with Sørloth, pinpointing Jonathan David in front of goal, heading in the opener.

Blauw-Zwart seemed taken aback, but managed to brush off the arrears quickly, pushing Gent back and forcing Kaminski to some fine saves, denying Schrijvers and Dennis. Meanwhile, the Buffalos lured on the break, and came close to adding a second as Dompé's shot went wide of target. Dennis had two more opportunities for an insistant Club, but to no avail. With just a few seconds on the clock in the first half, Kaminski tapped away a dangerous Diatta cross heading for Wesley.

Those who though Blauw-Zwart would be surging ahead from the second half kick-off were wrong, it was the visitors who came excruciatingly close to knocking Club out, but Sørloth, left all alone when Dompé's free kick arrived, put the leather against the outside of the post. A lucky break for Club, still looking for that equaliser. A hard shot by Schrijvers whizzed past, and a bit later the attacker was unable to connect with a colleague in front of goal. The visitors were stingy too, seeing Dompé's cross sail way wide.

A well-organised Gent suffered a blow moments later, seeing Esiti sent off with a second booking. This allowed Club to apply even more pressure, which resulted in the deserved equaliser. Vormer lifted the ball over the Gent defense, reaching Wesley, whose deviation ended up with Openda, who tapped in the equaliser with his first touch to the ball. Finally things seemed going Club's way, but the joy was short-lived as ref Van Driessche also sent off Dennis, after fouling Souquet in a duel.

Club now yearned for the winner, but found an excellent Kaminski on its path. The goalie had two massive saves in store to deny Cools and Denswil from afar, and also proved the better of a Diatta shot. In the dying minutes of the game, Openda saw his shot go over, while opportunities for Schrijvers and Wesley also didn't strike home. On the other side of the pitch, an attentive Horvath saved a Rosted header, keeping the score at 1-1. The draw widens the gap with leaders Genk again, extending their lead to nine points.
