Stefano Denswil: “Double personnel change worked out well”
Dampened spirits at half time, as Club headed for the dressing rooms with a 0-1 intermediate result, but in the second half a revitalised Club Brugge took command. The double substitution Poulain – Diatta for Amrabat – Cools clearly was a master move.
“Their opener fell out of the sky. And at that point in the game, it was a bit against the run of play. Not that we were overpowering them, but we actually had a fine start to the game. Up to their goal, we had had some slight chances, and then you concede that 0-1. A setback, but it also threw a spanner in our works, and things were a lot more difficult for us. At half time, we put our heads together, and decided to try more wing play to help us to better football. And it's fair to say that Diatta on the left and Dennis on the right produced quite some threats. Clearly the double substitution made a difference. We felt the equaliser was in the air, and after that 1-1 and that 2-1 we may have pushed on for another goal. But all in all I reckon we can be happy with this European win against a team that was yet to taste defeat this season.” (FDC)
