Stefano Denswil: "The easiest things went wrong"

Club Brugge played an unfortunate match against a shrewd Charleroi. Stefano Denswil was also unable to prevent the visitors from coming out on top.

"This 0-1 defeat can be called very surprising," said the Dutch defender. "They managed to score from a set piece and, apart from one more chance in the second half, they couldn't pose any danger. However, we must admit that we also didn't play our best game. We did create some chances, but actually too few to really claim a victory. It's striking how the simplest things went wrong today. I can't immediately pinpoint the cause of our failure either, because we had two excellent weeks of training, both in Qatar and here at home. Everyone was ready to go full throttle against Charleroi, but still, things went awry."

Club's defeat means a setback in the standings. "Because of our loss, we now find ourselves ten points behind leader Genk. We all know that this lead will be halved later on, but that's not how we should think because ultimately, it doesn't help. No, this was not a good match for us. The visitors also tried to keep the pace of the game slow, and when you then have a referee who just lets it go, well... When we approached him about the penalty incident in the second half, he just sent us away. Next weekend's match at Oostende is certainly not going to be easy either, but we just have to bounce back and return with a win." (FDC)
