Club Brugge and its fans. Week after week, Club can count on the unconditional support of the most loyal supporters in the country. European too, our supporters invariably impress with their positive and enthusiastic support for Blue Black. Their goal? To support: to support the club. But we should also take a moment to talk about the elephant in the room....
Bluvn Goan. There are few supporters' schools where the slogan sticks as closely to reality as at Club Brugge. Week after week, match after match, away or at home, through wind and rain, ... our 12th man is always there. That positive support ensures that we sometimes rise above ourselves. That we run that extra meter, score that extra goal or win a difficult match. To support, to be a supporter is to support your team. Together. Through thick and thin. Always.
Chants create atmosphere and ambiance and push the team forward. That is wonderful. Unfortunately, there is also that "one song" about "all who do not jump. Although the angle of this song was once meant to be different, it hurts other people. So we should stop doing it. Because it hurts others and ourselves.
First of all, because they don't fit Club Brugge. Because they don't reflect the values we want to stand for, as described in our Code of Ethics. We are a warm family club and we want to support our team. Hurting certain population groups is not part of that. Color, rank, ethnicity or beliefs, that has never mattered to us and never will. Allemolle tope.
Secondly, because they damage the Club. Because they do not support, but damage. In the past, extensive punishments have already been pronounced, resulting in hefty fines and new slurs on our Club and supporters. With each citation comes a new sanction with the ultimate doom being playing a game behind closed doors. Without our twelfth man. A situation no one wants to experience again: no one to support in the stadium.
That's why Club Brugge, together with its players, staff, employees and with the various supporter groups and federation, wants to put an end to these chants through this open letter. We stop it. For the Club.
