Timmy Simons: “Ending in this way is awesome”
Timmy Simons played his last game for Club Brugge against AA Gent. Despite the defeat, it was the most beautiful moment of his career.
“I am standing here with mixed feelings. I always postponed this moment and did not want to think about it but now the moment is there. Ending with a title is the most beautiful way. It feels strange. There were many possible scenarios about what would happen but I did not know what was planned. I want to thank the coach for putting me in the starting eleven. The past couple of days were special. I have experienced many fantastic years here and ending in this way is awesome. We are the deserved champions since we did many fabulous things this season. But of course you want to end the season in a better way than with a 0-1 defeat."
It is not yet clear what the future of Simons will bring. "I will first go on holiday now. Afterwards, we will sit around the table and look how the future will look like. But it is the purpose to decide as quickly as possible. I do not yet know where my capacities fit best. I will get the chance to grow and to discover that. Things will become clear later on. It is too much to say that my active career ends here because I will still try to stay fit. That will not be on the highest level but ending too drastically is also not good."
Ceulemans, Lambert, etc. are all Club legends and Simons certainly fits within that series. "That are all legends who played at Club. If you stop as an active player, they talk about the time of... I will first enjoy this moment and we will see later on in which series my name fits."
Timmy did not have to think a lot when asked about the most beautiful moment of his career. "My most beautiful moment? Then I choose this moment. It is the most beautiful moment despite it is a goodbye. You can easily see the appreciation of the people for what I did here. And that respect is mutual. I am a happy man when I see the fans smiling and partying." (KN)
