Union and Club Brugge shared the spoils following dramatic ending

Club Brugge traveled to Union on matchday 14 of the Jupiler Pro League. After fifteen minutes play Skov Olsen and Vanaken had put Club 2-0 up and the home side were down to ten, but nevertheless kept a point home after goals by Burgess and Nieuwkoop.

Following the clear win on Wednesday, coach Hoefkens had little reason to change too much about his line-up. Just the two changes, as Nusa and Yaremchuk made way for Skov Olsen and Jutglà. The home side made one necessary change: Van der Heyden was suspended, Sykes came on. For Nielsen it was a special game as he was up against his former team.

The top game could not have started better for Club! After only 29 seconds, Skov Olsen made space for himself in the box before rifling home to beat Moris. Union tried to recover from the early blow, but it took some time before Vanzeir could be sent deep. The angle was too sharp and his shot was too tame. In the preceding phase, Buchanan had been pulled down in the box by Adingra. After a VAR intervention, the ball went on the spot and Vanaken doubled the lead. On top of that, the home team had to continue with 10, as Adingra received the red card for the penalty foul on Buchanan.

Club was in the drivers' seat after just fifteen minutes play. Nielsen had some space to try it from outside the box, but his shot was blocked. Just after the half hour mark, the Dudenpark revived, as Burgess headed in to half the deficit. The goal sparked the hosts' belief to get something out of the game. A cross from Teuma deflected off Jutglà and almost surprised Mignolet. Moments later, there was an enormous chance for Lynen, but Mignolet was equal to it - the flag was also up.

The game was lively with chances for both sides. Meijer brought the ball sharply in front of goal and Burgess was just able to clear before Jutglà could try and tap in. No more goals so 1-2 at the break.

There were no substitutions at half-time and it was Union that created the first threat after 5 minutes. Boniface latched onto's Lazare's through, but Mignolet had rushed out to collect. Club responded swiftly via Meijer who feeded the ball to Vanaken, who's first-time shot swerved wide of the goal. The chances were for Club, but it wasn't Jutglà's night. First he was sent through on goal, but Moris dived into his feet, a few moments later he turned quickly inside the penalty area before seeing his placed shot take a deflection on a defender.

Both coaches made a few changes, which led to the game slowing down until there were fifteen minutes on the clock. Vanzeir tried to curl it in, but the ball ended up in the arms of Mignolet. Ten minutes before the end the hosts found the back of the net again when Lapoussin picked out Nieuwkoop in front of goal and the Dutchman headed in.

Club tried to bag all three points in the closing minutes, but Yaremchuk headed wide on a cross from his countryman Sobol. When Sowah flicked the ball in front of goal, it ended up into the path of Vanaken, but he failed to make a good connection with the ball and it hobbled wide.
