Fons Bastijns werd aanvankelijk aangekocht als aanvaller, maar al snel omgevormd tot flankverdediger.
Hij was Clubkapitein van 1974 tot 1981.
Kampioen in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 en 1980

Finalist Uefa-cup tegen Liverpool FC in 1976

Biografie

Bij KV Mechelen werd hij manager onder zijn oud-trainer Leo Canjels
Bastijns was kantoorhouder van een bankfiliaal in Brugge.
Hij werd in 2003 verkozen als eerste voorzitter van de vereniging van Oud-Spelers van Club Brugge.
Fons Bastijns had al enige jaren ALS, een zeldzame en ongeneeslijke spierziekte die de motorische zenuwcellen aantast.
Hij overleed in 2008. Hij werd 61 jaar oud.
