The match

For the first game of the group stage of the Conference League, Club Brugge will take on Turkish Besiktas at home! And this is not an unfamiliar opponent. In 2015, Blauw-Zwart last faced the team in the Round of 16 of the Europa League. Then FCB won both matches (2-1 home and 1-3 away). The teams also faced each other in 2006-07, but then Besiktas drew the longest (2-1).

For the ^47th time in history, a Belgian and Turkish club will face each other in Europe.

Blauw-Zwart was able to win 4-2 at home against Sporting Charleroi last weekend, while Besiktas suffered a 3-0 defeat on Trabzonspor's field. After four matches (2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat), Besiktas is in tenth place in the Turkish league.

The opponent

Like FCB, Besiktas also had to overcome many hurdles before it could enter the group stage of the UEFA Conference League. In the^2nd preliminary round, it won 3-1 and 0-2 against Albanian Tirana. In the 3rd preliminary round awaited Neftçi, a team from Azerbaijan, from which they won 1-3 and 2-1.

In the playoff round, Besiktas faced a top team from Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv. Besiktas managed to win both matches and could secure a place in the next stage.

For Besiktas, it will be the ninth confrontation with a Belgian opponent.
