Club suffers a 1-0 defeat at PSG after a good performance

A class performance, but Club Brugge return empty-handed from Paris. The blue and black conceded an unfortunate goal through Icardi, but created enough dangerous to warrant a draw. Diagne missed a golden opportunity to hand Club a well-deserved point when his spot kick was saved by Navas.

Philippe Clement wrote down six different names on his tactical board, compared to Saturday's 3-0 win against KV Kortrijk. Brandon Mechele and Federico Ricca played in defence instead of Mitrovic and Sobol. In midfield Éder Balanta replaced the suspended Ruud Vormer. Three new names in attack with Emmanuel Dennis - who was deemed match fit again -, Krépin Diatta and David Okereke. Schrijvers, Diagne and Openda were on the bench.

Club started the game lively, showing they hadn't come to the Parc des Princes to park the bus. With the exception of a well-taken free-kick by Di Maria, it was Club that was mostly in the attacking third of the opposition. Okereke bended an effort wide of the far post, before he was unabel to get good contact on a cross by Kossounou. After good attacking play on the right-hand side by Dennis, the winger found Rits inside the box but he was unable to get a touch.

Club wasn't good enough in the final third to get ahead and conceded an unlucky goal halfway the first half. Dagba's cross weaved its way through the Club Brugge defence and found Mauro Icardi in front of goal who tapped in from closeby. The Argentinian was just onside.

Club tried to get back into the game immediately. Dennis dragged his shot wide, while Okereke's cross took a deflection and trickled wide. On the stroke of half-time Mignolet was equal to two attempts by Di Maria.

After a sold first half, Club proved to be feisty opponents after the break as well. Five minutes into the second half, a superb double save by Navas was needed to keep the hosts in front. He was quick to react on a deflected shot by Dennis and kept out Okereke's effort on the rebound.

PSG responded through right away. Bernat's cross just evaded Mbappé and Icardi hit the side-netting.

On the other side of the pitch, Vanaken slammed a free-kick inside the wall and Dennis lacked support after a good attacking move.

As the game progressed, Club started to believe in its chances and kept creating danger. Rits couldn't capitalise on a cross by Dennis. Okereke couldn't when Rits played it inside the box.

Fifteen minutes before the end Club Brugge had a big chance to equalise when Diagne was brought down inside the box and referee Madden pointed to the spot. The Senegalese took the penalty, but Navas guessed right and saved it.

A mental blow, but Club didn't give up just yet. Ten minutes before the end Schrijvers was sent through on goal, but was stopped by a last-ditch tackle by Verrati. On the other side of the pitch Mignolet denied Dagba.

The best chance was for substitute Charles De Ketelaere. The midfielder broke into the box, but his left-footed effort was blocked by Silva.

Club Brugge were not rewarded for their efforts and return to Belgium empty-handed.
