The last match before the international break is the big clash against Union St.-Gilloise. Get perfectly prepared here for tomorrow’s match!
The match
This is the duel between the champions of the past two seasons, and also between the second and first in the standings. It will be the 98th encounter between both teams at the highest level. In the previous 48 home matches against Les Unionistes, Club achieved 22 wins (most recently 1-0 on 11/05/2022), 12 draws (most recently 1-1 on 06/10/2024), and 14 defeats (most recently 0-1 on 24/04/2025).
Club Brugge has not managed to win at home in the league against Union for 6 matches in a row (4D 2L). This means for 3 consecutive seasons Club has failed to beat them at home, although there was still a home victory in the Croky Cup. Last season, Club only managed to take 1 point out of 6 against the Brussels side. In the regular season, Brandon Mechele canceled out a goal from Franjo Ivanović (1-1). But in the play-offs, a goal from Alessio Castro-Montes ultimately proved decisive in the title race (0-1).
Earlier this season, however, Club Brugge was the only team able to defeat Union. In July, they won the Supercup 1-2 at the Dudenpark. Franjo Ivanović gave Union an early lead, but Club turned it around thanks to goals from Christos Tzolis and Hans Vanaken. Club Brugge is unbeaten in 9 straight home matches (7W 2D). The last team to win at Jan Breydel was, in fact, Union.
After 9 matchdays, Christos Tzolis rejoined Nicolò Tresoldi as Club’s top scorers. Both players have scored 3 goals in the league.
Tzolis is also the best assist provider with 3 assists. Together with Raul Florucz (Union), Josimar Alcócer (Westerlo), and Wilfried Kanga (Gent), he is the JPL player most involved in goals (6x).
Hans Vanaken is one of 25 players in the JPL who has not missed a single minute so far.
The opponent
On Sunday, reigning champions Union will visit Jan Breydel. Les Unionistes are still unbeaten in the Jupiler Pro League after 9 matchdays (7W 2D). With 23 points, they are 6 ahead of the Blues. Remarkably, Sunday will already be their 6th away game in 10 matches. This season, Union only dropped points against Royal Antwerp (1-1) and RAAL La Louvière (0-0).
With Promise David, Raul Florucz, and Kevin Rodríguez, the club has three co-top scorers in the Jupiler Pro League with 4 goals each. The best assist providers are Christian Burgess, Raul Florucz, and Adem Zorgane (2 assists).
For the first time since their promotion to the top flight, Union has a coach staying for more than one season. The 38-year-old Sébastien Pocognoli is still in charge. Union suffered a setback this week in the Champions League, losing their first home game in Anderlecht by a heavy 0-4 scoreline against England’s Newcastle United FC. But with a victory at PSV on the first matchday, they can still look back on a successful start to their first-ever UCL campaign.
In their last six league matches, Union has conceded only 1 goal. USG is unbeaten in their last 19 JPL matches. Their last defeat dates back to March 15 away at KRC Genk (2-1). With Union (19) and Club (16), the two highest-scoring teams in the JPL this season face each other.
