Club keeps off Charleroi (4-2)

Jupiler Pro League

A last gasp win for Club Brugge, seeing Charleroi off 4-2. Blue & Black trailed twice, but managed to draw level on both occasions, keeping it at 2-2 at the halfway mark. With just a few minutes on the clock, Nusa decided the tie in Club's favour with a nifty cross, only to see Jutglà put the result beyond doubt with Club's fourth of the day.

The team that had suffered the first defeat of the season at Gent last week was changed in three positions. Buchanan, out injured, was logically replaced at right back by Kyriani Sabbe, while Jorne Spileers reappeared at the expense of Boyata. Up front, Andreas Skov Olsen reclaimed his spot, with Antonio Nusa, who had had a great international break with the Norwegian squad, starting from the bench. Charleroi had only managed to score four in the previous six fixtures, but pushed forward from the start, Zorgane and Guiagon asking the Club defense questions, but a good five minutes into the game, the fine intentions finally paid off as Parfait Guiagon finely curled his attempt towards the far corner to make it 0-1.

The early setback rattled Club's cage, and the hosts started piling on the pressure. A Zinckernagel header went over, Koffi had a fine reflex in store to deny Vetlesen's deflected shot, and Zinckernagel saw his shot blocked after a scrimmage. Club pinned the visitors against their own goal, but a goal did not fall at first. Thiago's header went just wide, while Onyedika's shot from outside the box sailed over. Club had to be aware of any sudden breaks too, and was lucky when Zorgane's effort hobbled past Club's goal. The well-deserved equaliser finally fell half an hour into the game: an interception in the back swiftly reached Skov Olsen, who surged ahead and launched Igor Thiago who did not falter eye-to-eye with Koffi.

Club kept going full throttle to get that lead. A volleyed shot by Vanaked whizzed past, and a fine Sabbe cross was cleared just befor Thiago could get  head to it. The goal, however, came on the other side of the pitch: Vetle Dragsnes' shot chipped off Spileers' back and thwirled past Mignolet in goal. Not taken aback, Club kdept coming, looking for that equaliser, and with success: Kyriani Sabbe pushed on through the right wing, producing a superb cross met by Mechele to head in Club's second. Things could have been even rosier, if Thiago's deflected shot had not ended up in the side netting.

Straight out of the dressing rooms, Club immediately created another fine chance, but Zinckerrnagel, cutting inside from the left, saw his shot sail over the crossbar. Hardly impressed, Charleroi now also rung the alarm, three times even. First Oday Dabbagh was denied by Mignolet with an ultimate foot reflex, and two more efforts by the Palestinian were thwarted by Club's legendary goalie. In the meantime, Sabbe saw his effort to set up Thiago headed away just in time, while Koffi also produced a fine save to deny Zinckernagel's header.

Time was not exactly on Club's side, and Ronney Deila reacted, bringing on Nielsen and Nusa for Vetlesen and Zinckernagel. Still, it was Charleroi that continued its search for that third goal, as former Club striker Badji tried his luck but was denied by an industrious Mignolet. Back to the other side in this intense game, as Skov Olsen aimed his hard shot straight at Koffi. With ten minutes to go, Boyata and Jutglà also manned the pitch, with Club shifting to a 3-5-2 with Jutglà up front with Thiago, and De Cuyper and Nusa on the wings. This immediately to more Club chances, with Thiago heading it just wide, and De Cuyper seeing his shot go centimeters wide to the despair of the Club youngster.

The crowd wanted to erupt, and so it did with just three more minutes to play. Nusa had another nifty dribble in store and set himself up for a cross to reach Thiago or Jutglà by the far post, but the curling cross turned into a shot, as nobody had a tap to the ball but it went in by the far post. A Thiago steal seemed to put Club towards a fourth, but his chip was denied by an alert Koffi. The miss almost immediately lead to clear disaster, but fortunately for Club Mechele's goal line save from Heymans' shot saved the dy. Well into injury time Club cleared the ball after a corner kick, the ball ending up with Nusa putting Ferran Jutglà through, who neatly fired in Club's fourth after sidestepping his defender.
