A commanding 3-0 win for Club against KV Kortrijk

Club Brugge picked up an easy 3-0 win at home against KV Kortrijk. Hans Vanaken scored a double from the spot and with a header. After the break David Okereke killed the game with a third goal.

Philippe Clement rested a handful of players because of Wednesday's fixture against Paris Saint-Germain. He made six changes compared to the team that had beaten Zulte Waregem. In defence Matej Mitrović and Eduard Sobol replaced Mechele and Ricca, Mats Rits played instead of Balanta and in front there were three new names with Openda, Diagne and Schrijvers. Dennis, Okereke and Diatta were on the bench.

The game couldn't have started better for the blue and black. Inside the first minute Hines-Ike pulled down Sobol inside the box, referee Verboomen didn't have any other choice than to point to the spot. Vanaken was up for the challenge and fired it in to put Club in the drivers' seat early on.

The Kortrijk defender tried to make up for his mistake right away but his header just missed the target. After that header, it was Club again to dominate the game. Deli header Vormer's free-kick into the side-netting and Mitrović failed to convert a corner kick from the Dutchman.

Club doubled the lead halfway the first half when Vormer picked out Vanaken in the box with a cross and the Golden Boot headed it in powerfully. His second of the evening.

A few minutes later Diagne's flicked Sobol's free-kick just wide and Vormer aimed his free-kick just over the crossbar.

Just before the half-time whistle there was another penalty appeal when the ball was played against the arm of Kortrijk player Van der Bruggen, but Verboomen waved the appeal away.

The last chance was for Vanaken, but goalkeeper Bruzzese got down quickly to keep it out. Good save from the former Club Brugge goalie.

The same recipe after the break with Club Brugge setting the pace. Mbaye Diagne had three golden opportunities to add another goal to his tally, but failed to put it in. He scuffed his finish on a low cross by Kossounou, headed a cross by Schrijvers wide and headed another cross into the arms of Bruzzese.

In between Diagne's efforts, the Kortrijk goalie was equal to the efforts of Openda and Schrijvers.

On the hour mark Kortrijk almost got back into the game when substitute Golubovic' strike went centimeters wide. It was the sign for Club to put the game behind all doubt. First Bruzzese parried away a shot by Rits, but halfway the second half a brilliant move by Siebe Schrijvers and an equally good pass to substitute Okereke led to the third goal.

In the final minutes both teams didn't put too much effort in it anymore. Vanaken drilled it wide and Okereke fired Sobol's cross wide of the target. KV Kortrijk was close to a consolation goal, but Simon Mignolet was brilliant to keep out Mboyo's belter. Another clean sheet for Big Si!

After a commanding evening, Club celebrated a smooth 3-0 victory and will travel to Paris with a good feeling.
