Like last year, Club NXT is one of the participating teams in this year's prestigious tournament. The REWE Junior Cup takes place in Göttingen, Germany. Between Thursday, January 4 and Sunday, January 7, they will take on numerous European teams there in the indoor hall.
Although the Jupiler Pro League does not restart for the A nucleus until January 20, Club NXT U23 already hosts Lommel SK in The NEST on Saturday, January 13. To optimally prepare for that match, Club NXT U19 will participate in this tournament.
The tournament
Matches during the REWE Junior Cup are played on an artificial turf field of 40m by 20m, which is surrounded by boarding. This results in an enjoyable game of soccer at a high tempo where the ball stays in the field continuously. Each match is 1x 13 minutes.
Each team consists of four field players & a goalkeeper. A total of 12 players are allowed to participate in the tournament. The goalkeeper may leave his goal area to be used as an extra field player.
Club NXT U19 competes in the "VHG GRUPPE," one of four groups. In total, there are four groups of seven teams. The top four teams from each group advance to the qualifiers. In the event of a tie, goal difference counts.
Besides the German teams such as Schalke 04, Hannover 96, Union Berlin, ... there are also 5 international teams: FK Austria Wien, AZ Alkmaar, Fulham FC, Club NXT & Manchester United.
A KO system will follow from the quarterfinals onwards. In case of a tie, a 5-minute extension follows. Still no winner? Penalty-shootout!
