Goalless draw for Club at Standard

No love lost, and no goals between Standard and Club Brugge. Blauw-Zwart had its fair share of chances in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the nets.

With Ciara's gusts forcing the game to be moved to Wednesday, Blauw-Zwart had a full week's rest for once, and saw no reasons for changes to its Starting XI, with the exception of the suspended Dennis, replaced by Charles De Ketelaere. This also meant Michael Krmenčík kept his spot in the Starting XI as deep forward.

Despite a nervous start by Standard, Club soon took over and created the first threat of the game, as Deli headed Vormer's corner just wide of target. On the other side of the pitch, Amallah's header knew the same fate. With the pitch also not in the best of conditions, combining was hard, but halfway through the first half, Club again came close to scoring: Krmenčík cut away from Laifis, but then saw his effort stopped by Bodart.

Claiming possession and holding the reigns, Club had another fine chance after thirty minutes: Vanaken teed up with Vormer, but the Golden Boot's shot was again duly saved by Bodart. Things slowed down somewhat after that, even if Club had one more chance before half-time, seeing Bodart prove the better of first Sobol's shot and then De Ketelaere in the rebound.

Club started out the second half with fine intentions. Vormer had something great in mind as his cross-shot went for goal by the far post, but the ball sailed wide. What followed was a succession of fiery duels and a number of altercations, draining the pace from the game. With the exception of an Oulare header going over, and a Balanta shot blocked, the game saw no thrills.

With twenty minutes on the clock, the hosts shifted gears, forcing Mignolet to save a solid Oulare shot, while a Gavory free kick chipped off Balanta into corner kick. Club's reaction swiftly followed with a great chance for Vormer, neatly set up by Vanaken keeping hold of the ball up front and putting the Dutchman eye-to-eye with Bodart, but the former had a bad touch to the ball, seeing it fly past the post.

Club boss Clement had one more card up his sleeve by bringing on David Okereke, but the Nigerian also couldn't score. With both Club and Standard playing an untidy end of the game, no more chances followed. The draw means Club is now nine points ahead of runners-up AA Gent.
