Hans Vanaken: “Add a second and it would have been game over”

Jupiler Pro League

One of the architects behind Club's opener through Skov Olsen, Hans Vanaken saw how Club created a good number of chances. Still, the game got stuck at a 1-1 draw.

“It's not a good result, obviously", Club's skipper started his press talk. "But when you see how that 1-1 came about... A clear lucky goal through a deflected shot, and it's not as if Sint-Truiden threatened all that much besides that. We had plenty of chances to decide the game in our favour. We just need to score that second goal and it would have been game over. But unfortunately that 2-0 did not come, and it ended in a 1-1. It's true that we should have rekindled that energy to look for that 2-1, but maybe the energy and creativity was lacking in some players because of the many games we have played so far, keeping us from getting back into the right gear. We did try, but it didn't work out that well by the end of the game. Four draws in a row is not good, but I prefer that over winning twice and losing two. It's such a pity that we conceded that equaliser in such a lousy way, but it means a world of difference.” (FDC)
