A five star performance by Hans Vanaken helped Club towards a neat 2-0 win over Standard de Liège. Lots of fighting spirit and gusto came with the deserved three points.
“A correct and wel-deserved win. We dominated in every aspect of the game. Standard also had the ball at times, but they were unable to prove dangerous. Their best chance came through Ohio in the end. There's no better start than taking the lead just three minutes into the game. We put great pressure, making it hard on them to play their game. Our first fifteen minutes were really excellent, it's a pity we failed to score that second and kill it off sooner. In the end we played it out well, without getting into real trouble.”
After a somewhat rough start to the season, it looks like Club is taking it up a notch. “We realise it all starts with the energy you invest into a game, and that you can play some fine football thanks to that, creating chances and bringing confidence to the team. The results we had in the past couple of weeks come in handy too. ‘No Sweat, No Glory’: that's our motto, and that's where it all starts with. When we can bring that to the table, the rest will follow. Putting in the hard work is the basis for everyting. When we keep a clean sheet, knowing we always score in every game, we are going to haul in many a victory. It can be as simple as that. Five clean sheets, boosted by the fine results in Leuven and Besiktas, that's something we can build upon. Next Wednesday's game is a Cup tie, where we also want to progress. Take it one game at a time, and make sure we keep winning so we can finish the year off in style.” (KN)
