Hans Vanaken: "Quite an honour to get capped"
Just around 12h, Hans Vanaken was called to join the Red Devils for the first time; hours later, he was one of the main actors in the swooping win over Zulte Waregem.
"It all went perfectly today. We were in control from the very start, with a fine passing game. It kept them from finding their way into the game. We did great for about an hour, but after that we became a bit sloppy, allowing them a foothold. After they brought on Buffel and Bongonda, it went better for them. But we never felt like we were giving it away. Zulte Waregem tried to find an answer to our system, but struggled a bit in doing so, allowing us plenty of room to make the most of."
Club created a number of chances, and the audience at the Rainbow Stadium really should have been witness to an even bigger final score. "We just played it out well, and they were unable to create a counteraction. If we would have pushed on a bit more after that 0-4, more goals would have followed. But I don't think negative sentiments are in order today. It's a pity I wasn't able to score myself, but I won't be losing any sleep over it, really. Some will be happy with the international break to clear their heads and get some rest. After that, we should just keep going the way we are now. I don't reckon this break is reason enough to slow things down or get out of shape. We now to keep going along these lines, and take up where we left after the international game."
(MDK)
