Jorne Spileers: “Unstoppable if we keep up these performances.”

Jupiler Pro League

Keeping Standard from breaking the deadlock, Jorne Spileers and the entire Club defense were the foundations upon which Club built its 2-0 victory.

"Those first twenty minutes saw us off to a great start. Towards the end of the first half we drew back a little, that was not our best move. In the second half, we showed what Club Brugge is all about. If Standard would have succeeded in scoring that tying goal, things could have become dangerous. But we felt the momentum in our camp today, we kept going after that 2-0. They only had that one chance by the end of the game when Simon threw himself in front of Ohio. Things were very solid in the back today. When we can start the game with an opener so early on, it gives an extra boost. It's nice playing like that. A 0-0 after such a first half could have brought doubt to our minds. I hope we can keep going like this. After that fine start at Leuven, and that thrilling game at Besiktas, when we keep stringing along these performances, there's no getting past us."

With more intensity at training, Jorne Spileers now also sees the results improving. "More energy, and fighting more for one another, that's what's making the difference right now, and you can see that at training, the intensity is sky high. When you can bring that winning mentality to training, it's bound to show up in games too. There was some uncertainty at the start of the season, joined by a lot of criticism too. We have not been our best selves. But now we're on the right track, five clean sheets in the row is something we can take towards our next games. Not conceding means you always have at least one point in the end. When the strikers do what is supposed of them, we win. The way we are playing now, you just now it's going to end up well. We have a great selection, and right now it's up to the 18 selected to keep going. It'll all turn out fine."
