This week, 350 pupils from 20 classes from 10 schools in the Bruges region gathered at the Jan Breydel Stadium for the Kick-Off Event of the Scoring for Health project, an initiative of the Club Brugge Foundation. This event marks the start of a school year full of sports, education and motivation to embrace a healthy lifestyle, accompanied by Club Brugge players and players as inspiring role models.
Sport as a foundation for a healthy future
The Kick-Off Event at the Jan Breydel Stadium was full of sporting challenges, such as several physical tests, where students were challenged on speed, agility, strength and endurance. Through partner Joetz, the 350 students also received a workshop on healthy nutrition. In the fun zone, they were able to fully indulge in interactive exergames and an obstacle course. But Scoring for Health goes beyond a one-time field day. Throughout the school year, these children receive lessons on healthy nutrition, exercise and mental health, offered by the Club Brugge Foundation.
Throughout the year, the pupils are actively motivated to learn healthy habits. Club Brugge players and players act as role models, which has an enormous impact on the children. With Scoring for Health, pupils are inspired to make healthier choices. Moreover, they receive personalized gifts from Club Brugge, such as a Club lunch box, drinking bottle and gadgets that help them keep up their new lifestyle. The project also includes a school competition, providing additional motivation to participate with full commitment.
Davinia Vanmechelen: Every little step counts
As a gauge of the project, Club YLA player Davinia Vanmechelen is proud to contribute.
"As a professional soccer player, I know how important a healthy lifestyle is, both on and off the field. It is fantastic to see these young children grow in their health and self-confidence. Together with Club Brugge, we want to show them that every little step counts. That is why I like to come and encourage them in this challenge to help them persevere, even if it is sometimes difficult."
