Maty Ryan: "Back on July 14”

Finally. Mathew Ryan had been longing for weeks for some well-deserved rest. It's been a long and hard season for Club's Australian goalkeeper. After two years he deserved to catch his breath. After his more than successful debut season, Maty headed to Brazil for the World Championship and just over a week ago he faced Kirzigia. "I will rest and enjoy myself for three weeks in my home country," Ryan said. "I've been thinking about last season many times so far. My conclusion? You know me, I'm never satisfied."

Any thoughts about last season?

"I never beat about the bush: it was a disappointment to finish second. But then again it wasn't. It was a fantastic year for the team and we ended up breaking some long-lasting records at Club Brugge. I'm proud of the performances in Europe, especially because we conceded so few goals. On the other hand I'm hard on myself. During the Play-Offs... if I had saved one or two goals, we might have celebrated the title."

What are your expectations for next season?

"I was watching some footage of the Cup final we won and believe it or not, but I already felt some desire to get back on the training ground. Winning that final increased my hunger for silverware. Club Brugge already signed a few quality players. We can only hope that the newcomers will have a great season."

By the way, will we see you at Jan Breydel in a few weeks?

"Why not? I still have a contract, but everyone knows things can change quickly in football. I don't feel the need to leave, because I'm at a great club. So I wouldn't leave unless I can improve myself professionally and financially."

What are you up to the next three weeks?

"I want to clear my head first of all and take enough rest. And meet lots of people I love very much and I had to miss the last few months. The first days here in Australia were great and I can't imagine the following weeks won't be. So I'll be full of energy and well-rested when I returen at Jan Breydel on July 14 for the new chapter;"
