Ronny Deila: "Enjoying this achievement"

UEFA Conference League

The Blues knocked Besiktas with forfait figures and of course coach Deila was very happy and proud of his team.

"I am very satisfied with the team performance," started coach Deila. "We started the game very well and were leading 0-2 after only 15 minutes. After that, I thought we took it a bit too easily but in the second half we started to put high pressure again and were more aggressive. So we scored two goals again early in the second half. We actually controlled the whole game and hardly gave anything away, apart from one chance in the first half. In addition, we were able to give playing minutes to a lot of players. So it was a very nice evening because it doesn't happen quite often that you win like this in these conditions and stadium. So we have to enjoy that."

Thiago was able to score twice and Skoras also showed his capabilities by giving two assists. "I think they are developing well. Thiago started his time at Club well but started struggling a bit afterwards. That is also quite normal considering he was not used to the pace and performing under pressure at a top club. I also gave him a bit more rest in recent weeks and he seems sharp and hungry now. He works very hard for the team and I am very happy he was able to score twice tonight. Same story with Michal (Skoras)...He is very talented and he trains very well, so he perhaps deserved to start today. I am satisfied that he came on the pitch and showed what he shows on training as well. So I was not surprised by the improvement he showed today."

The Blues picked up 4 out of 6 points against Besiktas. "Besiktas was seen as one of the favourites in this group, so we didn't really know what to expect against them. So I am surprised that they have only one point now, which they grabbed against us. I do disagree when you say we didn't have that many chances in our first match against them. I think we even had more than today, so we should actually have won the game in Bruges quite comfortably. Today we were just a lot more efficient and in the end we got what we deserved."

In recent games, efficiency in front of target was somewhat lacking at Club Brugge but my players were training hard on that and this match could potentially be a turning point. "It could be but it's obviously about confidence and about repetition in terms of exercises and getting the right feeling to score goals. We are working very hard on training this season but have practised it even more in the last week. The most important thing remains to create enough chances. In fact, I know we have enough players who are able to score and they showed that today and also earlier on. So we need to keep on creating enough chances and understand why we can perform like we did tonight. We just need to become more consistent and we will be a very difficult opponent then," concluded a satisfied coach. (TM)
