Simon Mignolet: “Their goalie was simply unbeatable”

Jupiler Pro League

No victor in the city derby, Club with the better chance, Cercle with an outstanding man in between the posts. Despite the draw, Mignolet was happy with what he had seen.

“It was a game teeming with stress and effort", Club's goalie started out. "I reckon we took a huge stride forward in comparison with our previous games. It all started with a lot of intensity, but I also reckon we deserved the win given the number of chances we created. Cercle maybe had one chance where we had five, but unfortunately it just wouldn't go in. Games like these are always hard to play, but I think we were able to bring the type of football to deservedly claim the three points. In the end, none of them went in, and it remained at 0-0.”

“Cercle had the better of the game slightly for about 15 minutes of the game, but I managed to deny the only chance they had. After that we took over again and we were the only team to create chances. Unfortunately without goals, but I think we should remain positive and learn from the things we did well in the game. Their goalie proved unbeatable today, but that's just how it goes in football. Another two points dropped, but I'm not thinking about the total amount of points all too much. In theory, Club should always win all of its home games, but we weren't able to today, but I reckon there was plenty of positive things to build upon in the future.” (FDC)
