Simon Mignolet: "STVV played all or nothing after the break"

Simon Mignolet played a big part in today's win by keeping out Durkin's effort in the second half. The blue and black held on to the 1-2 lead and bag all three points at Stayen.

"With a new forward our football was easier and better. We created a number of chances and were 2-0 up at the half-time break. We were great in the first half. Not only will Bas help us with his goals, he will also help just by his presence on the pitch. He's a very experienced striker who can lead the way. All credit to STVV who played all or nothing in the second half and did great. It was a bit tense when Sint-Truiden pulled one back, but luckily we managed to defend our lead. It was the first game after a short one-week break. If you look at the other results of this matchday, you know it was an important win. We knew beforehand that we could increase our lead on our closest pursuers. Now we have to get back on the same level as we did last year. Three points at Sint-Truiden is a job well done. We are top of the league and we build from that."

Earlier this week Simon Mignolet was voted 'Goalkeeper of the Year'. "Obviously I'm happy with being named the best goalkeeper of the championship. It's my job and it's not always easy. It's the second year in a row and I thank the coaches who've helped me along the way." (KN)
