Zenit Saint Petersburg celebrated a 3-1 home victory against Sochi. The visitors trailed Zenit by two points, so a win would see them leapfrog coach Semak's team. But it was Zenit that bagged the three points. Right full-back Karavaev opened the scoring after fifteen minutes play and ten minutes later Erokhin doubled that lead. Sochi pulled one back on the hour mark, but left full-back Douglas Santos took away all doubt in stoppage time with a third goal for the zenitchiki.

Thanks to this win Zenit is joint first in the league with Spartak Moscow. (SF)

Borussia Dortmund won with the smallest of margins away against Hoffenheim thanks to a late goal by substitute Marco Reus. Coach Lucien Favre rested a couple of his regulars ahead of their first Champions League match against Lazio. Hoffenheim were well-organized against which made it difficult for the visitors to create a lot of good chances. Borussia was forced into an early change as defender Piszczek picked up an injury an was replaced by Delaney. Hoffenheim came close to a goal but goalkeeper Hitz was equal to the chance. In the final minutes of the first half Dortmund upped the pressure on Hoffenheim. The 17-year-old Reyna saw his shot blocked and Thomas Meunier headed a corner against the crossbar.

After the break coach Favre brought on Reus and Haaland. And that paid off in the end. Baumann first thwarted Reus, but with fifteen minutes on the clock Dortmund finally broke the deadlock. Haaland was sent through on goal and the Norwegian played the ball perfectly into the path of Reus who tapped into the empty net. Hoffenheim tried to respond with three fresh players, but couldn't score the equaliser. Thanks to this narrow win, Dortmund keeps track of league leaders RB Leipzig. (KN)
