Hans Vanaken: "Also against Union to the limit"

"We tried to make it a match again by all means and had numerous chances to bring the match to us. It was a game that could have gone either way," the Bruges captain said in a first reaction. "We got the chance for 1-0 through Romeo but seconds later, however, the 0-1 was on the scoreboard, after miscommunication at our back. However, Genk could not really impress me and especially in the second half I thought we played better than the Limburgers. But still they won 1-3, while we actually deserved more. It is unfortunately a recurring observation in these playoffs."
When asked who will be champion now, Vanaken held off : "There are still three teams in the running for the title, so anything is still possible. But just like against Antwerp and today against Genk, we also want to go to the limit next weekend against Union and play our part. This is what everyone, and certainly our supporters then, should expect from us."
On a personal level, Hans Vanaken scored his fourth goal in five games in this PO1. "It may be an equaling of my better stats, but ultimately no more than that. I personally don't derive any satisfaction from it at least, because before that our season as a whole was disappointing. As a Club, you always have to fight for the title until the end of the season." (MV)
