Hans Vanaken guided Club to a fine 2-0 victory against Standard. The captain saw entire team fight for these three points and it hardly gave anything away.
"It is a correct and deserved victory. We dominated over the whole match. Standard also got the ball, but there was very little danger from that. The most dangerous was with Ohio at the end. We got to 1-0 after only three minutes, you can't start any better. It was good pressure from us and we made it difficult for them to play soccer. Our first quarter was really good, too bad we didn't make that 2-0 even then and killed them off completely. We played out the match well, without too much trouble."
Club now seems to be on a roll after a weaker start to the season. "We realize that it starts with putting energy into a match and from there you can play good soccer, start creating chances and give confidence to the team. The results of the past few weeks also help with that. 'No Sweat, No Glory': that's the slogan and that's where everything starts. If we bring that, the rest will come naturally. The basics start with hard work. If we keep the zero and we score every game, we're going to win a lot of matches. The explanation can be that simple. Keeping zero five times and the good results in Leuven and Besiktas, we can continue with that. On Wednesday we already have another match in the cup where we want to continue. So finish match by match and make sure we keep winning to close the period towards Christmas well." (KN)
