On World No Tobacco Day, we welcomed Generation Smoke-Free and a group of fifth grade students to the Jan Breydel Stadium. Here the campaign "I'd rather blow bubbles than smoke" of Generation Smoke-Free was kicked off.
SMOKING AND SPORTS DON'T MIX
That children look up to their idols and copy what they do is no secret. Therefore, it is important that well-known athletes, including soccer stars such as Brandon Mechele and Tessa Wullaert, set the right example for this generation to grow up smoke-free. With this campaign this year, Generation Smoke-Free aims to make the grounds of all sports clubs in the country smoke-free.

SMOKE-FREE SPORTS GROUNDS
Since 2014, the Jan Breydel Stadium has been a smoke-free stadium and therefore the ideal setting to kick off this campaign together with some 20 pupils who were allowed to blow bubbles at the edge of the field. Because they obviously prefer blowing bubbles to smoke!
By making sports grounds smoke-free, sports clubs prevent children and young people from coming into contact with smoking in this way and can help prevent them from seeing smoking as a normal and pleasant part of life.
