Blue-Black wins convincingly on Dender field, read all comments below.
Christos Tzolis: "My two goals are gratifying."
"I am very happy with the victory today, we put an excellent result here. We are coming from a difficult period, but today we played a good game. Especially the second half was good, we need to put that intensity on the mat every time. We've had a lot of games where the chances just didn't go in, today we finished our chances. My two goals are good, but above all the big win is important today. We now have to take this into next week and then go back to full steam ahead."
Romeo Vermant: "I threw my body at the ball."
With two goals Romeo Vermant made his contribution to the big win against FC Dender. After an intense week, Club was thus able to take the three points back to Bruges.
"It was important for us to process it together, because there was also the Champions League. The coach handled it very calmly, kept the group together well and that resulted in this pleasing and spacious win for us. We made small adjustments at halftime and they helped tremendously. We also knew that the tempo had to increase to beat Dender and we succeeded. Being able to contribute to that was nice. It was a matter of getting the ball into goal. The cross didn't come at an ideal height and so I threw my body at it. I think I get the ball over the goal line with my underbelly, but how I score doesn't really matter much as long as the ball goes against the nets."
Ivan Leko: "We could have scored even more."
Coach Ivan Leko's first match in the Jupiler Pro League was won by wide margins. Blauw-Zwart went on to win 1-5 on the field of straggler FC Dender and was able to book a pleasing victory.
"This win is a relief for everyone, for the whole club. It had also been a while since we were able to win so widely. It was important to stay calm, because it was a tough week for both players and supporters. The preparation was not ideal, so I am all the more pleased with the result. We could have scored even more. We brought good soccer, book a great victory. That's not always easy in Belgium. All respect also to FC Dender, because they had a nice series before this and made it difficult for us. At halftime we adjusted small things. Our pressure was not good in the first half and our remaining defense was not on point. We gave them opportunities on the counter-attack and they gained confidence from that. So we asked to defend closer to the opponent and that worked out so we had a good second half and won very deservedly.
The next match in the Jupiler Pro League will take place next Sunday against former team Ivan Leko. "It will be a special match for me, but now, however, I am coach of Club Brugge and the focus is on the match."
