Reactions after Club - STVV

Jupiler Pro League

A resounding 7-0 victory at home against STVV after goals from Tzolis, Onyedika, Jashari & Vanaken. Read the first reactions here.

Hans Vanaken: "7-0 hasn't happened often yet"

Captain Hans Vanaken could only be proud of his team after such a victory. "We took control of the match from the beginning and, unlike Beerschot, we kept going. They didn't let up and that's a strong performance by the team." When asked if he has been 7-0 before, he could not immediately answer. "A 7-0 win like that hasn't happened very often. In fact, I don't think I've experienced it yet in my 10-year career here."

He was more than happy about those seven goals, especially Tzolis' goals. "We know Tzolis' qualities, we see it every week at training. Today suddenly everything came out. I'm happy for him." But Vanaken can only be happy about his own goaltending as well. "I shoot it in well, but the action before it was very good which allowed me to lay on well. Although I am mostly satisfied with the match. If you keep playing soccer after a lead, space comes and then you book a nice result like today."

Nicky Hayen: "The players grant each other a lot"

After a 7-0 victory, there were obviously only smiling faces to be seen at Blauw-Zwart. For example, Nicky Hayen saw all the puzzle pieces fall together perfectly. "However, we were very apprehensive about this match," said the Bruges coach. "After all, STVV is always very difficult to disrupt. But we started very well, with a lot of pressing and movement. We also got to 2-0 quickly, but I was especially pleased that the group then realized that they should not make peace with that double lead. Against Beerschot we were also quickly 2-0 ahead, but then we gave it away. In the past two weeks we have had several conversations about attitude. You should always try to find the best solutions, and correct things as a group if you notice that things are not going well. So you see today that if you keep playing compact and do your job, and fall back on your qualities, then you can achieve a lot." Christos Tzolis crowned himself the absolute match winner with four goals. "Christos is a real team player. He will always perform his tasks one hundred percent. He is very sociable and is also very good in the group. Moreover, he also has Club's DNA. Today he scored four goals, but that is also because he is well fed by the other players. Today it is Christos, tomorrow maybe Andreas and the day after tomorrow someone else. Moreover, the players favor each other a lot. For example, Vanaken is normally first designated for penalty kicks, but he granted Christos his hat trick."

Christos Tzolis: "A game for the history books“

Having scored four, it wasn't difficult to predict who was going to be named Man of the Match. Christos Tzolis addressed the press with the biggest smile: "I am a very happy man. It's the first time in my career that I scored four goals in one game and it's the first time that I score a flawless hat-trick. This is game for the history books, one that I will remember for ever. But I couldn't have done this alone - I have to thank both Hans (Vanaken) and Maxim (De Cuyper) that they immediately gave me the nod to take that spot kick. Which goal I like best? I think the first one, because it goes in really well. Props to Romeo (Vermant) to feed me the ball perfectly. My fourth one was a good goal as well, but I had some luck in the build-up, so that's why I pick the first goal as the best one tonight. After my goal with Greece against Austria, I felt my confidence growing on the pitch, so I hope to hold on to this feeling as long as possible. But I don't want to make this too much about me, because this was a team effort. We played really well, creating a lot of chances. We scored seven, but we could have scored far more. This seven-goal game is excellent prior to our visit to Celtic. We realise that it will be a completely different game, but we believe in our chances." (MV)

Ardon Jashari: “ A top game individually and as a team“

Club Brugge started the match with eight Belgians, but it were mostly the foreigners who found the back of the net. Ardon Jashari scored his first for Club. "I think we played very well tonight, so this was a good game before our Champions League match at Celtic on Wednesday. But it was mostly a good reaction from us after our disappoint result against Beerschot just before the international break. Now it is up to us to keep our level of play high enough. Especially after our third goal we showed individually and as a team, that we are capable of great things", the Switzerland international said after the match. "I am also happy for Christos (Tzolis) with his four goals. Celebrating this win? Not really, because we have a tough opponent awaiting us on Wednesday. They are a great team, especially at home, so it will be up to us to be ready for them." (MV)
