Sint-Andreas school wins 14th edition Club Brugge Schools Cup

On Wednesday afternoon, April 19, Club Brugge Foundation organized the Club Brugge Schools Cup, the widely known Club Brugge Cup. This year no less than 20 school teams from Bruges and neighboring municipalities participated in the Schools Cup. As each year, besides soccer, fair play, respect and women's soccer were central to the event!

TOURNAMENT FOR THIRD GRADE PRIMARY AND SPECIAL EDUCATION

The first Wednesday after the Easter vacations is traditionally the day when many pupils from the third grade of primary and special education visit the Jan Breydel Stadium. In different competitions they compete against each other and compete not only for the cup with the big ears but also for the fair play cup and the supporters cup. Each team had to send at least 2 girls to promote women's soccer .

HIGH ATTENDANCE DURING THE TOURNAMENT

The first kickoff was given at 1:30 p.m., the last match was at 4:30 p.m. It was a fun and sporting afternoon on the Bruges practice fields. Not only was football played but there were also various peripheral activities. The students who had energy to spare could have fun on the bouncy castles, test their speed skills with the ball at Football Worx or mix their own smoothie with the juice stepper.

None other than Denis Odoi and Bjorn Meijer joined the tournament. So they were assistant coaches for the finalists, De Fonkel and Sint-AndreasLyceum Sint-Kruis! It was an exciting final in which Bjorn Meijer with De Fonkel narrowly beat the eventual winner Sint-Andreaslyceum with assistant coach Denis Odoi. Congratulations to SASK!

The different matches were well managed by members of our walking soccer team and by some players of Club YLA.

FAIRNESS AND RESPECT PARAMOUNT

Besides the sporting part of the tournament, playing fair and with respect was also an important factor. The Fair Play trophy went to Zedelgem-Dorp 2 with just short of the maximum points, congratulations! Besides the Fair Play trophy there was also a supporters cup awarded and that went to the Frères, their large banner was visible almost the entire tournament and the Frères' numerous supporters were often loudly heard.

The reactions on and around the practice fields were already praising the various initiatives and activities at the Club Brugge Schools Cup. "The students had a fantastic time, if we had to wait a while between 2 games they could have fun on the bouncy castle and many also got to make a delicious smoothie," said Master Peter of Free Primary School Zedelgem-Dorp. "We are very happy that we won the Fair Play cup, really credit to the students. Also the girls loved that they got to play so much during the games."
