200 Walking footballers compete for the Club Brugge Oldstars Cup 2023

On Thursday, April 20, 19 teams were able to warm up during a rainy day at the Club Brugge Legends Oldstars Cup 2023. This 7th edition of Club Brugge's annual international walking soccer tournament once again took place on the practice fields next to the iconic Jan Breydel Stadium.

With teams such as Oldstars VV Zaamslag, Chelsea FC Foundation, Alte Herren VFB Kirchhellen E.V. and Essevee Old Stars, we represented 4 countries (Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium). Also our own team, the Club Brugge Legends, who helped organize the event, delivered a team.

"We had a top day despite the weather being a bit disappointing. Our players once again gave everything and the team spirit is better than ever!" - trainer Chelsea FC Foundation.

Teams were welcomed in the morning with a free cup of coffee. After the opening ceremony, the pool matches started. The teams were divided into 4 pools of 5 teams each. After the lunch break, the classification matches started. The day ended with a pleasant award ceremony in the FCB Kaffee in the Jan Breydel Stadium.

High visit

The players could count on a high visit from none other than Raoul Lambert. He took the time to have a chat with everyone and have his picture taken.

Former club player Leo Van der Elst was also present during the award ceremony. Zaamslag (NL) won the Fair Play cup, the cup for 'oldest player' went to an 85-year-old player from OHL (BE). In the end the main cup, winner of the tournament, went to Essevee (BE)!

Reusable cups

During the event, reusable cups were used to serve the drinks. In this way, we not only ensure that the number of disposable plastic is reduced, but also that less waste (beer bottles, cans, plastic cups) is left along the fields, thus ensuring a clean environment.
